Kitchens: still one of the best investments
As you may know, updating your kitchen is one of the best investments you can make in your home. Despite the economy and real estate decline, kitchen remodels continue returning around 70% of your investment in the Great Lakes Region (for more background, see Kitchens.com)
Materials have a big impact on your overall costs. In particular, cabinets, hardware, and other finishes need consideration.

Stock cabinets come in a variety of finishes, or you can custom stain an unfinished set.
Stock cabinets help save money in kitchen remodels, especially if your kitchen doesn’t need special configurations and sizes. If not available in-store, they usually arrive within a week.
You can find semi-custom cabinets at places like IKEA. Configure different shapes and sizes to meet some of your unique needs. While more expensive than stock cabinets, they are usually less expensive than true custom cabinets.
Costs also add up around finishing details. Many homeowners are surprised by the cost of hardware, like knobs and handles. I was shocked to learn the faucet and handles for our jacuzzi tub were nearly 20% the cost of the tub! We found a similar style for half the retail price on eBay. The faucet and handles were in perfect condition when they arrived.
Finally, don’t forget to consider your market. What materials are other, similar homes in your area using? Granite counter tops don’t make a whole lot of sense for many homeowners. It’s a high-end material, in a lower-end market. Can’t live without it? Consider Granite tiles for a counter top, instead of whole, uncut pieces. You can get a similar look for lower costs.

Well… that’s amazing but actually i have a hard time determining it… I’m wondering what others have to say….
